URGENT what's wrong with my lipstick

Would love to know more about what your friend is doing differently...you say they have a fish that gets 18 inches in a tank only 18" wide for 10 years? How big is the fish now?

Tangs don't grow to the size of the tank...well, they do, but their internal organs still grow, and they eventually die from it. You can see it in the eye...it will be bigger than the same size fish wild collected. Really curious about this, since it is absolutely not the norm!

So sorry about your fish, OP. :(

Flukes are silent killers. They attach to fish gills eventual eat away their gills causing them breathing issues.

How long does it take flukes to manifest? The OP stated he's had this fish for a month before any problems developed. I ask because I'm experiencing similar problems and do not know the cause.

If it helps, and if it was in fact Flukes, discolouration started 2 days before deterioration.

It has been nearly 6 weeks since I've added anything to an otherwise healthy system, in the last week I've lost 1/2 of my fish. I suspected flukes and have treated my DT and things seemed to be settling down as I've had no more deaths in the last few days where previously I was losing fish daily.
I assumed after 6 weeks I was in the clear and by the time I realized I was having a problem I lost most of the fish before I could administer any form of treatment.

I have just had a false clown die and one of my maroons and panther grouper is missing. Quick, how do I treat this bloody flukes!?

If it is flukes you need to use prazipro. Make sure you airate your water well since it tends to lower the oxygen level in the water.

Hard to say with naso tangs. They can get a white blotchy appearance to their skin just from stress, so doesn't necessarily mean flukes. Best way to determine that is a FW dip and see what drops off. Cloudy eyes (both of them) can be an indicator of a bacterial infection, so that'd be my guess.

Either way, quarantine is highly recommended, particularly for tangs - impatience is not well rewarded in this hobby. Tank size is fine for a while though it will outgrow a 5 footer.

Thank you ca1ore. I appreciate your comments. I may come across as heartless and even cruel as I have been called on here before, but I of course would sell on any fish that I believed was too big for the tank. I see a regal the other day that was smaller than my thumbnail, and from experience (of keeping a regal tang of moderate young adult size in a 30 litre nano perfectly fine for 3 years, it subsequently died after getting a 120l tank. That is why I'm sceptical when people say 'oh that tank is too small') it is going to be a totally adequate size for some time, albeit until it comes of age and size when it is too big. That thumbnail would probably last 4-5 years until it outgrew the tank. And by then may be in a new bigger tank, and if not sold on or given away. I don't believe people can say 'that tank is too small' because it's simply not always the case but the easiest thing to say.

I would blame the NO3POX4. I dosed a tank with the recommended amount and the next morning the water was cloudy and fish were at the surface trying to breath. Did you get any cloudy water after using the product? Lack of oxygen. If you did you really need to increase air to the tank when using it. In the future when **** happens think "large water change." Sorry to hear of your loss.

I don't think any cloudiness, but then I am dosing the sump so can't really see. I'm gonna leave off it for a bit and see if anything else bloody dies. Lol. Thanks carrots.
