I just discovered the reason why these bulbs are in short supply. Seems that the company that manufactures them switched their production to China .....

what a blunder...

but then again, just shows that most manufacturers, once they receive your money for a product, and you require their products to keep the first purchase going, simply never think of those customers.. I would think that they would have a backup until their production began...

I believe that i will convert to t5...

I noticed that the 660 icecaps can support t5s? Am I right? I have two vho 48" 4X110W 660 systems and two dual bulb systems.

how many t5s can one 660 Ice Cap Ballast handle?

he size and wattage?

does the t5 last longer than VHO?


I noticed the bulbs are higher cost, the actinics are $32/35 each and are max 54 watts for 4 foot. i also read that a 5 foot bulb at 80 watts is available, with two 660's rated at 4X110 watt, can i use them and how many bulbs at what wattage?

Hi Rockster,

According to IceCap, the 660 ballast would be able to run 4 of the 54 watt bulbs. It will overdrive the bulb to around 80 watts. As for the longer bulbs, it will fire up to 3 of those bulbs. The bulbs should last 12-18 months using the Icecap ballasts.
