I am in my last few days of a hypo treatment for all my fish and my Lyretail has Uronema. Classic bulging red scales and scratching. He is still eating but I know this disease moves fast.

what treatments are effective? I have started raising salinity slowly.

formalin dip?

Thanks for the help.

rishma,

I think Anthias are one fish that shouldn't go through hypo, or at least not as low as people suggest here on RC (1.009!). I don't know if you've seen my other recent posts on this subject, but Uronema can often go intra-cellular, even infecting th organs. Once that happens, there really isn't much you can do, although I once saved a seadragon with formalin mixed with DMSO to carry it in to the fish's muscle (very risky!).
Formalin / malachite green would be my treatment of choice - in a QT of course. I make my own up, but I believe Kordon still makes a product, others probably do as well. Some people advocate for slight hypersalinity (1.027) but I would not suggest doing that in this case as the fish is going to have a difficult time adjusting to any change in salinity due to its damaged skin.

thanks for the help. I have a formalin malachite green mix that I will use. due to my inability to test for concentration, I'll do a series of dips and return the fish to quanteen.

I wont put my anthias in hypo again.
