As the title suggests I am wondering who the URS officers are?
I have been told by mods that I was supposed to have gained sanctioning for my BRS group buy thread, and I would just like to speak to our officer to offer my apologies for not doing so and to find out how to go about it next time.

BRS group buys have popped up before run by regular ole forum members. Cant see the problem here. I also was never aware of any "officers"

Wow thats how they want this to be? Seems a bit club house-ish to me. Whatever...We can start having meetings in my basement. I still have my paddle from the ole frat days too. This could be just as terrible as an idea as that was.

When i did a group buy, i told them i was running it and all went well. They wont turn the business down. Its only 10% off. Tell them its you.

URS is not a organized, club unfortunately. I wish we could organize and become a real club. We have many local people who post in this forum. Never are there ever meetings. The last time i saw any attempt to turn this place around was about two or three years ago by Puter. It all fell through due to lack of interest, willing participants, and some people complaining about a really small fee. Clubs need money to fund projects. What kills me though is that we probably rank in the top 10 most actively posted local forums. URS is a great "Group" of people with common interests in mind, who are willing to share and help others. I really wish we could of gotten things more organized.

I think it would be very hard to have a club that meets regularly when you have members that span across a few hundred miles.

I'm a bit confused. I know rc is trying to protect the interests of each club by not freely allowing postings of other club's events, but group buys within the group??? I like this group in that it been said "participate and you're a member." Its pure anarchy!

I am not sure the details of why it is but they warned me so I wanna do it legit. I rather enjoy the atmosphere of our forums and I have a pretty rich sense of humor and it takes alot to offend me but everyone isnt like me so I guess I shall behave.:fun2:

Keep in mind that not all clubs are as free as URS. Many of the clubs not only have officers but are fully incorporated non-profit organizations with registered names. Many require dues and charge admission to "sanctioned" meetings and swaps.

I am sure RC just wants to protect the rights of those organized clubs. Just trying to make sure that no one uses a registered name or trademark without permission.

Just another thought. Some of the clubs that charge dues and have "official" group buys may require membership to participate in the group buy. Could be one of the benefits of being a dues paying member.

Folks, lets not jump to conclusions about how RC is trying to beat us down. They've put this (and other club-forum policies) in place largely at the clubs' request, and it is indeed here to give the clubs some degree of control over what happens on their forum. That's all there is to it.

If there was no control over users' abilities to post group buys, it would be REALLY REALLY easy to abuse group buy threads as a way to promote or shill for vendors. The only real way to make sure that isn't happening is if there's some human input by a person who has their finger on the local scene's pulse, hence checking in with a "club officer" before posting group buy threads.

Edit - Dave beat me to the punch!

der_wille_zur_macht, and daveverdo thank you for the info I didn't really think of it in terms of the group buy being abused by vendors but that all makes sense. I wasn't trying to raise a stink I sincerely wished to have future things such as a group buy approved so I didn't step on any toes around here, when I posted originally I had no idea I needed permission to get some of our members together to participate in this buy and as I am sure it isnt going to be the last I just wish to know the proper channels. I hope this doesn't come across the wrong way as I am in no way shape or form upset by any of it.:bounce2::bounce1::bounce3::dance:

Technically you guys are supposed to be a club to have a forum here.

Group buys are supposed to be a club activity with the intent on saving money on shipping. Part of the reason for that is so that everyone and their dog doesn't jump in the club forums to try and do group buys.

Definitly makes sense. Hey dc you wouldn't happen to be in Cheyenne are you? My mothers entire side of the family lives in cheyenne. I am out there maybe once a year.

So Debi...if we want to do this again? What is the right way to do it?

BRS offers separate shipping and just discounts their products for group buys as a way to get more people at once to order rather than each of us waiting and doing it on our own. As a result people such as myself will probably order more because I am getting a discounted rate. Also the URS is a club we just don't have the regulations and dues like some other clubs but we do have a website.

I seriously didn't intend on this becoming some sort of issue I just wanted to do things the way RC has requested, I understand that RC needs to sanction things for their benefit but jeez I am just a middle class reef enthusiast trying to help myself and my fellow reefers by setting this up, not a vendor or affiliated with brs in any way except for the fact that I send them money to send me things for my :fish2:tank.
