Dwzm, When you talk with them it may be helpful to note that I found the wording on this that DGenR8 had posted at top but only after clicking on the Search Engine Update by Beerguy and scrolling down.

"Reef club events **PLEASE READ**

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the continuing effort to curb forum spam while at the same time supporting the local clubs the staff of Reef Central asks that advertising club events remain limited to the forum of the club holding the event. Additional advertising is provided in the announcement forum and in Reef Keeping magazine. Neighboring clubs who wish to support each other’s events can do so by having a club officer post the neighbors’ event in their forum. This will prevent conflict between club events and help reduce the possibility of abuse while allowing each club the privilege of advertising in the forums provided through the web site. We realize the importance of club events and the need to advertise them but at the same we all must respect the boundaries of our neighbors, as the events they are holding are just as important to them as yours is to you."

I don't see anything senseless about it. The group buy policy is in place to help clubs and RC itself moderate interactions between users and vendors. Without these sorts of regulations, this place WOULD be a big huge mess. I'm glad this policy is in place because it helps clubs keep out commercial riffraff.

At any rate, we here in upstate NY are using this forum free of charge and with very little asked of us in terms of carrying the (much larger than you might imagine) cost or administrative overhead required to run an online forum. We have been given a lot more leeway in terms of determining how our URS forum is run than might be apparent on the surface. We are plugged in to the world's largest online reefkeeping community. We are essentially here as guests - we've got it pretty good. So doing something as simple as checking with someone before posting a group buy seems to me like a really insignificant thing for the RC admins to ask of us.

I see what you are saying, but several group buys have been organized here from URS in the past,I'm sure it helps both RC ands BRS as well as us to be able to organize this stuff here..I do not see this as a one way street thing ..nothing ever is when business is involved

"as long as none of our club members have a problem with a group buy being posted in our forum then there is no problem."

i have no problem with anyone organizing a group buy that is local that i can take part in, as i have orginized group buys myself here on more than one occasion and have delt with the extra work involved.

So Gary are you our club officer or is that a wrong assumption? If you aren't whom is?

Yup. ;) But I can see how it wasn't realized as there wasn't anything overly visible to warn against it from what I can find. The UA is kinda hazy with regards to commercial posting interpretation so I'm not sure I would have thought anything of it from just reading that.

fwiw if you're abiding by RC's rules you got my blessings
that's a big if.... . i understand not wanting to anger the rc gods. maybe we can get a sticky with all things must be cleared by gary first. whatever it takes to make the mods happy. i think some kind of clairifcation would be helpfull.
