Use floating bookshelf as a LED light stand?

You'll have to reenforced it so making sure the weight is supportable.

Here's my home base one.

You could easily do this.. but not with those pre made boxes...

You would need to build something a big stronger.... Put a 2x ledger screwed on to the wall studs with Lag bolts . then the hollow box will slide of them. screw top down bottom and two screws in each end . this will provide plenty of support without needed a ceiling chain or mount.. I do this for fireplace mantle pieces often as well as window headers and SO ON..

Remember the deeper the shelf the thicker you need to make the box and attachment ledger .20 inches would prob be pushing a 1x6 box with a 2x6 ledger... as a example

How much is any weight, exactly? It's worked fine for me before. And with my Elos leds, and my Vitrea led, which is at least 15 pounds, full of glass. How do you know how much the op's fixture weighs?

To the op, those floating bookshelves slide into and are screwed into a fixture that is supported by a dozen or so bolts, as seen in this image (below shelf). The bookshelf is as stable as the fixture is to the wall. They usually tend to sag if installed on drywall, even with anchors. If you have a cement or cinder wall and use masonry anchors, it'll be rock solid (pun intended), but if it's drywall and you have a heavy light, I'd think twice.
