Used glass tank with hazy glass

I recently aquired a 65 gallon oceanic glass tank, now this is an older tank so I don't expect it to be perfect. The glass has a haze on it and nothing we have tried gets it out or off. I have even purchased cerium oxide for polishing glass and that didn't work.

Anybody have any ideas on what I can use or this tank just not worth messing with.

I can supply pictures if that would be helpful.

White vinegar or muriatic acid can be used.

Please be careful with the acid, it is bad stuff and should be used outdoors. The fumes will hurt your lungs and will instantly cause any metal the touch to oxidize (rust).

we have actually used vinegar and acid both and neither worked, but I have to admit that we used a product called sno-bowl which is actually a toilet cleaner but it had muriatic acid in it.

there is a chance that the glass is etched. though i doubt it. the snow bowl more than likely was not strong enough.

im lazy. i pull my pump drop it in water and add muriatic acid until it starts fizzing real good. cover, then turn the pump on and let it run for a minute or two.

cannot be stessed enough muriatic can make you go blind. USE CAUTION, USE COMMON SENSE and goggles.

so take the tank and fill it with water outside. pour muriatic acid into tank until stuff starts to fizz, youve now added enough (IMO). let the tank sit awhile. now take the hose and place in water and turn on and allow it to slowly dilute. drain and rinse tank thoroughly.

DO NOT DO THIS ON A CONCRETE DRIVE unless you dont care.

I would just throw the tank away. There is nothing like pure clean transparent fish floating in your living room. Older tanks often have scratches in the glass that attract algae, or smaller scratched from scotch brite pads.

The glass part of a reef tank is such a small % of the total and very important to look immaculate.
