Used tank price

1000$ for a used 180g tank and stand (no equipment or sumps). All in decent condition (glass has some micro scratches/scuffs that maybe can polish out?) no leaks. Is that a fair price?

Prices range new from 500 to 1400 depending on equipment. If it's Starphire glass, half an inch thick, it's worth more than thin glass. if it's drilled with a downflow box and 2 holes for hoses to a sump, it's worth more than one that isn't. White vinegar can remove white stuff and encrustation. Glass doesn't polish well, but if the scuffs are minor, water will diffuse the reflection: if it's acrylic, that's a different set of prices. Look for a glass tank that size to be really really heavy: my 102 gallon needed two men and a strong woman to lift onto the stand.

Depending on where you live that may be a good price. To me it is not for a used tank. For a grand I would be inclined to go new. just my 2 cents worth.

I agree with above but want to add. Used I would start by 50% on the Price of the tank. Then deduct for anything wrong with. Check all seems and Silicone Also tank into consideration your time to clean .

The stand.. If its a VERY WELL BUILT STAND By a Carpenter out of REAL Lumber. Think about a Piece of Furniture in your home of the same size with equal Qualities VS A Piece of mdf that was mass built and put together with toggle fasteners...

Judge what they are worth Separate and how they fit your needs.. In some cases a stand can Cost way more then a TANK If built well and fits what is in your mind you want ... With that being said. Someone selling one cant really sell it easily without the tank with it...

In my mind the stand is worth the cost of the lumber and a day or two to build.

Good Luck on Finding your New Used Aquarium ...

As other folks mentioned, around midwest for 180G tank and stand for $1k is not the best deal. I would opt in for a little more for a new one, which should be around $1-1.3k with drill holes and nice stand. Unless this has a really nice wood, canopy and nice thick glass.

Way too high. $1 a gallon is typical for a used tank. Stand depends on a lot but if just standard pressboard stand not worth anything more.

I Agree..

I paid 200 for Our custom 84x30x22 inch 5/8 Thick glass TANK. It was NOT drilled So I DId that myself...

I think that rule only works until you get to the 55 gallon range. The cost of building bigger tanks increases exponentially as the glass thickness increases.

Around here (SW that would also be pretty high-priced. I would expect to pay between $450-$600 depending on condition and features.

I agree with you on this one, just look at any tank that is 55+ gallons should have a $2-4 per gallon depends on condition and additional for the stand.

So in theory this tank should only cost you around $600ish, if it has a really nice stand solid wood.

Thanks for the quick responses. Ended up deciding to pass and keep my options open. The condition made me a little nervous for the price that was asked.

If you are searching Craigs list You gotta be Quick Good DEALS Are had but gone in minutes sometimes.

I think I paid $250 for my 180 w/ stand and canopy from a Craig's list posting. It was drilled, scratches, and leaked. I'm still debating on if it was a good deal considering the hell I went through removing the pains and the worse part removing ALL the silicone. You think you have it all down to the glass and but one more swipe with the razor peals yet one more microscopic layer of silicone... Then getting it all back together... I will never do something like that again.
