using both overflows as draines

What do I have to do to make both the drains and the returns in my OF chambers both draines?

I have a 125g aga with the corner overflows. I just purchased 2 - 1 in seaswirls for the tank. I have never used sea swirls before but I am tired of dead spots with Powerheads.

How much flow can I get through the standard OFs if they are both draines?

That would be 4 drains to the sump. I am assuming I will have to remove a few of the teeth at the top of the OF walls? I have a dremmel so I should not be too difficult.

I am using 1 mag 12 now as my return pump....should I get another? One for each 1" sea swirl?

About the only thing I have ever modified or built for my tanks is the plumbing to the sump and returns and building the standard 3 chamber sumps.

Thanks for the help.

I'm curious about the answer to this as well. I'm looking at a 90 gallon Deep Blue aquarium with a corner overflow, and want to implement a Herbie overflow system using the second return as a drain..... Err, the return as a second drain.

Test it and see if a Mag 12 causes your sand to go everywhere when its pointed straight toward the front glass. I think it maybe too strong

Each has a 1 and 3/4 bulkhead, if you use both as drains, I would think you could drain ~900 g/hr from each side maybe more. You will def. need to mod. the overflow teeth.
