Using Copper test kits with Cupramine

I am dosing Cupramine in my 10G QT tank for 2 days now. I followed both the instructions on the back of the bottle and from this site thanks tylersarah

Cupramine dosing calculator:

(.381) * (strength of dose) * (gallons being treated) = mL of Cupramine to dose

Example: (.381) * (.5mg/L) * (10.5 gallons) = 2mL of Cupramine to dose slowly over a period of time

*On the bottle it indicates that 16 drops = 1ml.

I have added 2ml to my QT and tested using the API Copper test kit and my results are zero? So to test if the tester was the problem I added a drop of cupramine directly to test kit and it went seriously up... so what is broke here?

I added +8 drop to see if that would have an impact - test kit still reads zero?

Tank is 10G bare bottom with PVC HOB filter with only filter pad. I was running carbon prior but pulled it out before I started dosing. I am keeping the lights off to reduce stress?

Should I add more? Should I hold?? What is the gap? Cupramine does not show up with this test kit b/c???

If memory serves, I believe that you'd be better served by using either SeaChem or Salifert test kits when using Cupramine. The API kit will work on a chelated type copper, i.e. Coppersafe.

+1

I have found the Salifert test to be easier to read, personally.
