so im getting ready to put my tank together....by roomate has like 15 lbs of dead rock.....whould it be good to put that rock into my tank along with a peice of live rock so it will "seed" the dead rock.....

or

is it better the just buy all live rock???

thanks

I would not put it in if you have livestock in the tank. Any dead sponges and algae is going to cause a cycle.

Dead rock is perfect for base rock. Use it as the fondation of your reef, it is going to be covered with sand and never get any light anyways.

So was it live rock at one time then?? I asked the question before to make sure you are not just throwing rock in from the backyard.

yes, the live rock came from my 10 gallon that i had set up for 2+ years. It was fiji live rock but now is fiji dead rock lol. Its good rock and is pretty porous to allow for good surface area for bacteria go grow!
