Using Elos conductivity probe with Apex?

Has anyone tried using an Elos conductivity probe with an Apex? It appears to have the same 4-pin connector and looks more durable than the Neptune probe. I only ask because my second Neptune conductivity probe in two years has failed/refuses to calibrate and the suckers are expensive to have such a short life. Thanks!

Conductivity = salinity

Just another parameter to monitor. Can have Apex shut off your auto-topoff if the salinity drops too much.

Yes, the Apex can do this.

Have you investigated why they fail; the probe itself should last much longer; are you cleaning the probe regularly? If the probe gets even the least of calcium build-up on it the probe can act as though it is bad but a good soaking will bring it right back to life.

Ken,
Is it safe to soak the probes in vinegar and if so, can PH, ORP be soaked in it as well? I assume it would need to be recalibrated as after the soak? I have not touched my Condx probe in several months though I do occasionally use a tooth brush to clean it.

The only way that I know of to clear a probe is to soak in vinegar; been doing it for as long as I've had tanks with controllers.

The Cond probe especially since you cannot reach the sensing components with a brush; ther prefer a soaking. Usually 10-15 minutes will do it; especially helpful to have a pump in the vinegar to keep it moving (I find that makes the vinegar to do a better job).

Yes, clear + recalibrate. Ideally monthly, minimally when you notice that readings are not as expected (you might see them slowly ramping away from expected range and this is a sure sign they need cleaned and calibrated OR that something is going bad in the tank).

Maybe you have an old Cond probe you can check?

Ken,

I will try cleaning it in vinegar. I admit to being afraid of messing with it too much since I broke a pre-apex probe with a brush. Thanks!

What I do is soak (15 minutes); swish in RO water; repeat as needed. Sometime I'll use a SOFT toothbrush and lightly brush the bulb (PH and ORP ONLY; not the cond as it really doesn't have anything you can get to with a brush).
