Using Flat Tap???

I've got a 40B frag system set up with corals saved in it. I'll be moving that as is to the new house. Very little LR. Shouldn't kick up too much crap. I'll top her off with new salt water at new house.

Fish will be in a 100gallon RM Stock tank. If I'm really not worried about algae and I use as much of the old SW and LR as I can, can I just use flat tap water to mix new salt water for this system?

Will the nitrates and phosphates effect the fish. Not worried about any inverts, JUST FISH.

In the moving process, I just won't have the time, or room to make and mix enough RO and SW to accomodate everything. I obviously will favor the corals with what I can muster.

Any help????

From personal experience, you can use tap for the fish. I used to treat it with Amquel+ before mixing in the salt.

Good luck with everything!

i'll throw the old kiddie pool suggestion out there. $10 it can hold hundreds of gallons of water and let u space stuff out. tap water works too. i dig my faucet adapter for rodi. another $10 and u can make water anywhere untill u get setup.

do you think there'd be any ill effects towards corals should I decide to put them in there? I mean, I've certainly done enough battle with algae of all types to know it's pretty harmless to corals and can be eliminated by proper means once things stabilize.

Cant live rock act as a sponge and absorb all the extra nutrients? I would avoid that, and depending on your tap waters no3 and po4 levels, cant that be bad for sps.

if I used tap water I'd be sure to let it run for a little while to clear any copper or other contaminants from the plumbing that builds up in water when it sits in the pipe.

Do you thing the Cave Men had RODI units?

I've seen plenty of tap only reefs. Fish & food can dump plenty more junk into the water than you're dealing with.

it'd surely be fine for fish and probably for hardier corals, but I'd test the TDS of the new water first.

alternative: I have a 50gpd RODI unit that is currently unused and uninstalled with a screw-on faucet attachment. you'd be more than welcome to borrow it. need to order prefilters but I need to do that anyway. when are you moving?

I appreciate the offer. I have the same set up. Making RO isn't the issue. Its making enough, storing it, AND moving it. I just wont have the time or space on moving day. Its gonna be a nightmare without the tanks. Sticking them onto the to do list is just gonna be miserable.

Grab a large food grade barrel to use. It may be a bit of a hassle, but why take the chance? It may be a pain in the butt (or back), but it's not worth putting the phosphates and other crap in your water.
