Using Old Rock To Mount Corals?

I've got a bunch of old Realreef rock that has been sitting in a bucket for a few months now. Am I good just to rinse and scrub with a toothbrush in some RODI water and use it to mount corals?

Thanks,

You may want to fill the bucket of rock with salt water and primer let it run for 3 days with carbon to be safe....

Yeah, you could also break it up and throw some in your sump if you have space. A little extra biofiltration. Give it a good clean, let it sit as uncleL mentioned and you should be good.

I had a lot of small rubble pieces I used for this purpose, mine sat in a bucket as well. When I needed a piece I would give it a rinse and a scrub and mount the coral. good luck just my 2 cents.

I use old dry rubble all the time, simple rinse and scrub and you are good to go.

Same here. Even if it has some nutrients soaked into it, still better than frag plugs IMO. They always give me trouble with algae or aiptasia, and they don't fit the rocks either. I'm over plugs.

+1 If using ceramic frag plugs Ill usually let them "season" by keeping them in the sump for a few months before I use them, I find they typically don't grow algae on them as bad VS brand new plugs.

I have a box of rubble rock already clean and dry ready to use sitting next to my frag station in the fish room. I prefer to keep it dry until use - I find it easier to work with that way and from a biological filtration standpoint it really doesn't make much difference.
