using old salt?

so i've got this bag of old instant ocean thats been in my basement for 2 years and its opened but rolled up

should i still use that salt?

if i do use it, it will just be for cycling the tank

I would use it. Especially if you're just going to use it to cycle the tank.

I would just pitch it. Being open for two years it has probablly absorbed all sorts of bad stuff.

If it's caked, I'd toss it ... if it's still powdery, it should be good.

I think it is fine, all my salt gets like that after just a few months. And I have no ill affects.

I would definitely use it. Salt doesn't really go bad . . . in fact salt is used to preserve a lot of things. The only thing it could really absorb is moisture out of the air, which isn't going to harm anything.

And if you still aren't going to use it, I'd be willing to take it off your hands and dispose of it for you...
