Using too much GFO ****ing off my maxima?

I just moved my maxima to a new tank which now has a gfo/carbon reactor and she has been ****ed all day gaping a bit. All my parameters are testing at:

pH 8.4
Alk 7
NH4 undetectable
Nitrate 0

Water is brand new so has there's no way it's been depleted of calcium.

Could it be I am using too much GFO? I am using the BRS GFO and used 7 tablespoons on ~28g of system water volume which is the recommended amount per the instructions.

Will taking out some GFO at this point even help or should I just do a large water change?

I think he might just be a bit ****ed off because of the new tank. As for GFO, i feed usually once a day, 1-2 cubes of frozen thawed, and i also run gfo and carbon, the amount recommended by brs, and my maxima is just fine. You might be correct in that it may be a bit too clean for his liking though.

Edit: what where the parameters in your old tank?

The water in the old tank was pure filth. No skimmer, reactor, nothing. Then she went sexual and released white milk and tank looked insane until I tore it down. The clam and my acans absolutely loved the filthy water though so go figure.

It was recommended to me by a forum member to start with half the amount of BRS GFO. It was mainly because of my SPS corals.

While I can't say if your clam is PO'ed about the GFO...but on my 65g tank I use 1/4 cup of GFO with no ill affects. I rinse it with like 4 gallons of water....maybe you didn't rinse ithe GFO enough when you added it to your reactor?? The BRS GFO is dusty...definitively make sure you rinse it really good.

That's probably what it is. I barely rinsed the gfo. But now my clam has gotten used to everything and its opening up real wide.
