I am creating a new thread cause my other thread went of topic, but the off topic is a good one.

Here are a couple threads from this forum on the rust issue. If you google "œCoralife twist rust" you will find many horror stories about this issue. Do yourself a favor and remove it before you have issues.

I have inspected the housing of my Coralife twist UV light and i see no reflective coating that would rust. i wonder if mine is a newer model? very interesting!! because Plastic does not rust.

I believe this is not rust, these uvs are now sealed from water. That is probably carbonate building over the black plastic. I wouldnt worry

well in another post here in reef central about this issue raised concerns for me and the following photo is form that post THIS IS NOT MY UV LIGHT IN this photo . again this photo is from some one else's thread. so. water sealing the units maybe contributing to the prevention of the issues displayed in this photo from happening to my UV LIGHT? i like that theory,

I have no context to the original posts, but I see no way for these things to 'rust' because, as noted, the body is plastic and the sleeve is glass. Neither rusts . The bulb gets quite hot and I have found that the carbonate buildup on the glass sleeve can burn over time and will go brown. This is not unique to the twist though. Probably had three or four of them over time, and none had any kind of internal metal reflector. They are not of great quality. My last one kept blowing bulbs prematurely so I went elsewhere.

Well this coralife twist turbo twist was bought by me, almost 4 years ago and has been set up and running on my 75 gallon gresh water tank; for years(2 maybe 3) i have never changed the bulb nor has it ever blown. It fails when comparing paper specs to paper specis. Its been running STRONG.... LOL.

I just read about this same topic today and checked my sterilizer. I have the exact one you are holding in the picture. We are fortunate that the model we have were not built with the reflector ring. I think it has to do with manufacture date.
