UV Filter Question

Hi all,

So I recently got a coralife twist 18w uv filter for my 90 gallon reef.

Initially I put it inline with the return, and it within hours made my water crystal clear.

Since, I have noticed the diminished flow, so I bought a mag 3 to power the UV filter. I put the m3 into my return portion of my sump and ran from the uv filter straight into the tank.

My thought was that this provide slower flow to the UV filter, and restores the flow to my tank while adding a bit more.

I did this yesterday at around 5 pm, and now today at noon my water is still cloudy. Not real bad, but cloudy.

Is this because of the slowed rate of turnover now going to the UV filter? Will it clear up in time?

Or do you think given how quickly it cleared up initially, that something may be wrong now?

Btw - the pump originally used (and is what I use for my return) is a mag 7

Thanks for your help!

If you ask me it's too fast.

I would put a ball valve after the UV and dial it way down.

The slower the flow through the UV the more contact time he water will have within the unit. Longer contact time = more effective.

The Coralife Twists tell you specifically not to put a valve between the body of the filter and the tank. I assume they are afraid of it backing up in the UV filter and causing a leak in it.

so I ended up using a powerhead to power the uv filter, which flows from the drain chamber of the sump into the live rock chamber
