UV sterilizer required for BB tanks?

For the purpose of breaking down nutrients, not parasite control. I know a lot of people use them on larger barebottom tanks, but what about 50 gallons tsv (I've got a 40 breeder)? Are the smaller UV units even worth it for that purpose? If so what size unit and feed pump? Run it 24/7 or a few hours a day?

No, they are not required.
They can help but are not required.
Wet skimming and siphoning detritus are your best friends.
