UV Sterilizer vs. all-in-one???

Hello!
I am considering buying a UV sterilizer and a filter for my tank (75 g soft corals and fish). I found a combo unit that has a 9W UV Sterilizer built into the filter, and thought it looked good. The other option is running a coralife 9W sterilizer and seperate canister filter. Any input would be helpful!
Here are the units I am considering:
Coralife 9W Sterilizer:

The filter/UV Sterilizer combo:

thanks!

This is just an observation for your consideration...I have found that sometimes buying the specialized piece of uquiptment, while more expensive, does the job better than the "All in one" or fixes everything option.

Something to ponder. Does anyone in the club use a UVS?

J

No but I have been kicking the idea around. I think I am going to give in and go with RO water first instead of filtered water and hold off on the UV. I was going to go UV when I noticed I had quite a bit of sediment in my water at this house when you first turn the water on. So I want to address that issue before taking the UV plunge.

UV is used to kill the things you can't see.

Drillmaster Jason. After the holidays I need to aquire your services to drill a hole or 2 in the back of my 55. Where do you buy your bulkheads from?

Bryan,

Jason doesnt do 55 gal. tanks at last check. Something about them all being tempered and he still is cleaning glass out of the ceiling in his basement.

I know the bottom is tempered, but I didn't know the back was. There goes a great idea if that is the case. Maybe I will sell it and get a 40 long instead I know they are drillable.

Do you have well water Brian?

I have well water and have alot of silt even after our water softener. When we had our water tested last year, the service guy claimed he could feel the silt in the water. When I setup my 10 gal I filled it with non-softened water and run the HOB for 48 hours and had tons of slit settle out on the tank bottom and the filter box. Currently I buy the RODI water at Wal-Mart for .36 cents per gallon. I need to buy a RODI filter of my own to add some convenience. Am planning on installing a whole-house filter in the next couple of weeks as a frontline defense against silt.

No I am on city water. I was filtering the water and it was working fine for the longest time but I had a anthia die while morphing they dragged his remains into the rock and of course knocked it all out of whack.

I since got rid of the foam block in the fresh water filter and started using floss which seems to be improving the situation I also need a bigger skimmer. I think a some bad bacteria was created in the filter media. I also want to get my tank up to 30x turnover. My 55 was at 30x and that is when my tank was at its healthiest.
