UV Sterilizers and Ich

Opinions requested. Do they do anything to ich since it is a free floating parasite at certain stages of its life? Or just a gimmick. does it really keep the water clearer?

They're not a gimmick ...they can help with ich but they're also not recommended for reef tanks.

If you have a bacteria explosion they can help clear the water but ozone would be a better way to go if you want clear water.

Why not for reef? Because they can kill the good bacteria also?

They'll kill all the microscopic and not so microscopic pods, larvae, and general fauna. Good on a q-tank, not so much on a reef. If you have a big algae bloom or similar problem, UV would be a good temp solution; just don't run it 24/7.
