UV Sterilizers

Yeah........I've read ancedotal comments in threads & people and articles parroting his comments, but nothing substantial to support those claims.

Experience is very substantial. I experience it...so it does what it does. One does not need science to tell them the sky is blue or that when they added UV the skimmer showed an increase in skimmate...
People say vodka dosing increases skimmate...it does because people experienced it...there has not been a 'scientific' study on the matter and if there was who cares as all it is showing is what people already experienced and have been saying all along. The UV effects organics and micro organisms..they get skimmed off either from increased die off, or in the case of organics the organic is altered by the irradiation and is more easily skimmable(or parts of it are).

:lol::lol:...............okay, I'll take your word for it.:rolleyes:

as well as everyone else that has witnessed the same effect.. Either way, do what you want. The Op made the smart choice and got himself an UV... he will be happy like all us out there that run one on our tanks that are properly sized with correct flow and see the results and positive effects for ourselves.
of course you could just get an UV and see for yourself... and then you will know first hand for yourself... I know... what a concept...right??..

If I only knew a fraction of what you guys know about reef keeping! This was great information. Thanks a bunch!

Its seems as though I am on the right thread to ask this question. I have about 120 total gallons of water. What size UV would I get with what flow? I like the Aqua UV hang on. Is recirculating it back to the sump a bad idea?

aqua uv are very good. I would recommend going in line vs the hang on and run it off your return to the tank. size will be the size needed for your return flow. go to their website to determine flow and what size will work. circulating in sump is less effective vs circulating from or two the tank. circulating in sump and you end up rcontinuously circulating much of the same water that just ran through the uv.
