UV sterlizer question

How well do UV sterilizers work for algae control? Ive heard mixed things. Would like feedback on experiences. If viable - anyone got one for sale? Ty.

Coral farmer do you recomend running it to pr vent green water, or just when needed?

Just to be clear, reefers rarely suffer from green water. Lots of sessile algae all over hard surfaces yes, but green water, not so much. Pond owners, lots of green water.

UV can also be effective against free swimming parasites.

UV clean the water of parasites and free flowing form of algae. In the reef tank it's hard to see the benefit because the lighting is so bright and the water looks so clear. In the pond if helps clear the green water but in the reef tank it helps clear the light yellow tint in the water. I do see some benefit.

I dont have green water fortunately. I had an algae problem going on. I got a Tomini tang and he is taking care of business big time!! Thanks everyone!

Then again, if there are no negatives I see no reason to not run one. Hmmm lol
