Hi, do yuo guys use uv strerilizers on your sps tanks. Is it good thing to have or just waste. I have few guys saying that they dont work or work just on barebottom tanks. I have read a while back that it helps eliminating single cell algae and and with fish preventing diseases. he people that use them is there any maintanence involved regarding cleaning it.

UV sterilizers are great at clarifying water and killing free floating algae spores. They may be beneficial at killing some parasites but I would not rely on one for that reason.
As far as maintenance is concerned, some have filter pads in them that may need to be cleaned occasionally, bulbs also need to be replaced periodically.
I used to have massive phyto blooms in my tank and UV was the only thing that elimintated it. I don't run one anymore though.
