UV- Yes or No?

Ok....Thought I understood it until this thread....let me see if I understand it now...

Hypothetically (because I am a math freak), if I had a 90G tankwith a 30G sump for a total of 120G system, and the optimal turn-over for UV is 4-5x: that would mean I would require ~700GPH UV unit. Now to add to this, If I were to go HO, and map the 12th month degredation flow rates (based on bulb efficiencies after the 12th month) to the ~700GPH flow rate, that is the unit everyone would suggest.....correct? (understanding this is a vendor agnostic question, as vendor choice adds complexity that I will deal with once I get a better grip on teh concept).

Ouch....that hurt...I need more coffee.....

Thanks
Chris

OK....a little more to see if I get this....

If I were to choose to go with Emperor, the 50WHO unit has a max rate of 720 which assumes 100% lamp performance and 540 based on 60% lamp performance.

Likewise the 80W unit is 1200 for 100% and 900 for 60%.

Since my scenario is targeted flow of ~700, I could get away with the 50W unit but would need to change the bulb sooner. If I sunk the extra $$ in the 80W unit, the bulb would last longer, decreasing the total cost (initial costs + Maintenance costs for new bulbs) over a longer period of time...

Did I get this?

Thanks
Chris

bump....

Can somone who knows more than me (which is most people  ) let me know if I have the right idea?

Thanks
Chris
