Uv

I have a question regardin the powerhead for UV sterilizer.
My tank is 1m by 40cm by 35cm. I just installed a 9w UV, and a powerhead with maximum flow of 500litre/hour, I put the powerhead bout 25cm under the water, so the powerhead doesn't produce a high flow. I'm just a bit confused, can anyone help me out with the proper maximum flow/powerhead that I should use to achieve the most efficent UV?

Thankx.

what's your goal? controal algea, or parasites? they have different preferred flow rates. it is slower for parasites.

For my 80 gal FOWLR w/ 18 watt UV, I use the smallest MaxiJet powerhead I could find. I think it is like 110 GPH. I got a UV to control parasites (I currently own a hippo tang, so I need it).

Hey

Hey

I would like to conttrol algae, parasites, and bacteria... make full use of the UV if possible. So i suppose, the lowest slow rate would be the best right?

Since my tank is probably only 45g, so I think gettin a powerhead that is 50gph would be the best?

depends on the uv wattage, not the tank size. go to drfosterandsmith.com (i think it is spelled right) and they have a few articles on it. i would recommend buying dry goods from them. they are very reasonable. i bought an 18x turbo twist fo under $100, and my LFS wants $160 for the same model.

yes, sounds like you want to run it slower, though.
