Vacation Ideas

Hey Gang,

I am heading to Colorado with my 20 year old daughter in a month. I love Florida but the older I get the tougher the summers are to endure. Looking for some good ideas as to where to go; I like to fish and outdoor activities. Looking for some different scenery and 0 percent humidity. I am a working man so economics is a consideration; looking for the best bang for the buck! Thanks Jeff

Driving or Flying?

How long are you staying?

Do you camp?

Are you (and your daughter) in good physical shape?

There are tons of things to do here...
You could camp and hike some of the 14ers
You could camp and visit Rockey Mountain National Park
You could spend some time in Steamboat Springs
You could do some mountain biking

This is all Denver based. There is also lots to do on the other side of the state!

Waterton Canyon in southwest Littleton (a suburb of Denver), is a 13 mile hike along the South Platte river. It is free and since it is along a dirt road it is fairly easy trip (however far you decide to go. One can expect lots of Great Trout fishing, Mule deer, Bighorn Sheep and definitely feel like you are out of town, might be a good trip to test out your high altitude legs before really heading into the mountains and up high.
So many other places to check out, Colorado is a wonderful place, not only lower in humidity but the bugs are much smaller here too.

Ok I have picked Colorado Springs; I am not in good shape in fact have a couple stints. Doc says I should be ok just take my nitro; I am active though and love to fish and will not sit around on my vacation. Would liketo rent a place on the water for a week if possible. Thanks Jeff

Well the springs is not my area so I will defer. I would go to the Garden of the Gods while there.

Take a drive to Glenwood Springs if you don't mind a drive. Stay at the Lodge Hotel and Pool. Just a wonderful place to go. You would pass through the White Water national forest, it is such a site to see. I have been there so many times and still find myself admiring everthing there. Also head up to Estes Park on a weekend and stroll up and down the main road. The Cheyenne Mnt. Zoo in CO. Springs is always cool to go to. The Royal Gorge bridge is just West of the Springs. Take some time and google these places. Ohh and if you like drinking some beer, you got to go to the Brekenridge Beer Festival, July 18th... Yummmy

Flying into Denver on the 18th. of July looking for a nice reasonable place to stay for 7 nights. I was quoted one price of 250.00 a night at the Broadmoor in CS; it is out of my budget. Any other good spots foor 150.00 a night let me know. Thanks Jeff

just use priceline. It is a great way to get a deal. I fly to Puerto Rico in the morning and my room is 60 a night rather than the 159 they wanted. Will probably take you a couple of trys to get the best price but just start really low and do alot of stars for rating. You will get a great deal that way.

If you are looking to spend time in Colorado Springs, I would head over to Canon City and the Royal Gouge as per the other sugestion, then take Highway 50 west into Salida. From there north to Buena Vista you can go whitewater rafting and I'm sure arrange fishing. Plenty of beautiful scenery as well.

Just make sure to pace yourself and drink plenty of water. Even young adults in excellent shape can occasionally experience problems with the altitude.
