Vague Coral Question

I apologize in advance for the lack of information in this question. I have seen several pictures where it appears a coral is attached to the SIDE of a rock/glass/overflow and forms a ledge or shelf. Can anyone tell me what sort of coral grows like that?

Almost any coral will/can attach to the glass of the tank if given a good opportunity. But it's mostly monties that like to plate.
