Variable speed ports

Just got my Apex this week and I was wondering how well the Variable speed ports work with Tunze streams. I was thinking about ordering one of the cables (one cable per two streams right?) if they work well and ditching my 7095 control box.

I haven't really checked into it to much as I have been really busy this week but do you lose any functionality by going this route and how hard are these ports to program?
