Vectra VS Varios

Trying to decide between the Varios 8 or the Vectra L1.
What are your experiences with these pumps good and bad. Tank will
Be controlled by a Neptune Apex and also a reeflink.

I have the varios 8 and love it! Even at speed 1/5, it's pushing more water than my mag 9 did. Very quiet pump, I like that it has the slow start instead of going full power when you turn the pump on or feeding mode off. I know the vectra can be programmed so there's a "minimum" speed so when you're in feeding mode, water doesn't syphon but since the varios is already apex capatible, you can program it to do the same.

I haven't had time to play with programming it more with the apex but at least you don't have to buy any more hardware.

Varios also comes with a float switch and bracket so you can use it with skimmer cup or sump water level. It'll simply turn the pump off

i have the Varios 8 also. Its very quiet even at max. I wish it had a little better head pressure, but i dont think the L1 is any better.

Im using it on a red sea 525xl . The recommended flow is 1000gph. I have 5 90 turns in my manifold and red sea limits you to a 3/4 barb so 2 barbs before return. I get about 600 gph after giving some flow (200ish gph each ) to 2-3 other items. A little lower than what I expected, I should have had a straighter manifold design.

for sure go with the 8 it will not be too much.

the bummer with red sea is the attachment to the return has to go through the barbs. the attachment that has the barb screwed in is metric and uses an o-ring for a seal. I cant find anything like it. From what i can guess. It doesnt use the normal threads that taper to get compression. I tried a few things then gave up and used the barb it comes with. Not sure how much that restricts.

for the price you would think they would give an option that takes a 3/4 pipe. Dont get me wrong I love the 525xl, its just a little annoyance.

It's 25mm metric fitting you can get a 25 mm to 3/4 slip from coral-vue. I'm building a manifold now and going from 3/4 to 1 inch.
