Velvet/Ich immunity?

I had an outbreak in my tank that wiped out 20+ fish in my tank about 5 months ago now. Not 100% sure it was velvet but since everything crashed in the matter of a week, that was the consensus.

Regardless I had two survivors a sailfin tang and a solaris wrasse that have been in the tank since then. My question is do I still need to pull these fish and treat in one form or another for velvet/ich and let the display sit fallow for 6 weeks. Are the fish not hosting the parasite any more and thus the tank is clear to add more fish or are they still hosting but just immune and not presenting the symptoms?

3 weeks of fallow will give you a 68% chance, 6 weeks will give you a 95% chance and 8 weeks will give you a 99.7% chance. got that info from snorvich.

I'm letting my tank fallow for 12 weeks. Well I guess 9 weeks since its starts over if you add corals or inverts, and I just picked up some corals from the marine expo.

Actually, that was for cryptocaryon irritans where the back end of the life cycle is less predictable. The life cycle of velvet is more definitive. Two times life cycle (2 * 3 weeks) or six weeks would be terrific.

And remember that while some fish develop immunity (which is temporary) they still carry the parasite and can affect others.

does running UV help with removing the parasite in a fish less system ?

Well . . . time is your friend and UV will not speed up the time required. However, if you have multiple tanks sharing water, isolating with UV is a good idea if matched to flow between the tanks and the sleeve is clean.

thank you Steve. I got velvet in my sps reef 2 months ago, a wrasse survived for about 1.5 months, and I finally caught it, now the tank has been fishless for 3 weeks, and I was planning on keeping that way till beginning of may.

I raise temp from 77 to 82, but dont want to risk my sps. also started running UV in the sump. [3 tanks in the system]

just wanted to see if anything else I can do to speed up, have fish in QT waiting.

With no fish, raising the temperature is ok, although probably will not speed up the fallow time. But remember that higher temperature reduces dissolved oxygen in the water.
