How did your tank react to that water? I tested the stock from Glacier and the TDS was 40. Is this good enough for a reef tank?

Lets just say it is better than Tap water, but not as good as making your own or buying from a LFS. I used it for a couple of years becuase I couldn't afford much else. Since I started making my own I have noticed ALOT less algae and healthier corals.

I've been using Glacier for 5 years with zero problems.I am purchasing an ro/di filter but that's only because I'm sick of lugging the water bottles around.

tds is dependent on where you puchase and how recently the machine was serviced. i've had tds readings of 0 and 3 at a glacier machine in alhambra, and 8 to 20 on a glacier machine in hollywood.

I have used vending machine water (Glacier and others) since setting up
my tank over 10 years ago. Not a single problem! Dennis

I guess I just need to time it after they serviced the machine. I've asked some LFS and they don't sell unsalted water. Any idea if there's an LFS on the Westside that sell unmixed/unsalted water?

I used the Glacier machines on Barrington and Santa Monica (at Vons) for a few months. They usually had 10-20ppm and undetectable chlorine. I soon bought a RO/DI system, which is the most convenient piece of equipment ever! Carrying and storing buckets of water is not much fun.

Due to space issues, I've decided to sell my RODI system. I will check out that Vons at SM and Barrington.

unless your testing it, how do you know?

Jimmy at Fish Collection on Yorba Linda Blvd. in Placentia can test it-he has some of the expensive equipment they use at water stores to test for impurities. Also a friend of mine owns a mail order water purifier company and says it is just inevitable for algae to grow inside of these machines and they or your fish set-up need a uv sterilizer for this reason. I had a home RO system without a UV sterilizer on it or my tank and after about a year of operation the phosphates were off the chart in my tank and 1.0 right out of the RO filter! Just something to think about...

they sell r/o water at imperial tropical(old tongs brea) for 59c a gallon. its near the brea mall

There should be a tag on the machine with a hand written date, that is the date last serviced. Check it every week to see when it changes and that will give you the frequency of service, then figure out exactly what day the service it.

When I was using that water, I would show up when they were servicing it with 6 bottles, and wait. The service tech has to test the machine when he is done, and would do so by filling up a few of my bottles (for free!)
