Venting

It was 10F outside this morning. We lost power from 7am till 3 pm. "We don't know what is wrong" was the best answer I could get from Virginia Power. Temp inside the house droped to 50. You can guess about the tanks and my poor fish.

Stupid generator did not kick in till noon. I did not know that 1K generator is I-am-too-cold-to-work-at-10F

Wow. Sorry. We had the same problems after Katrina when our generator gave out in 100 degree heat. Hard to say what is worse, heat or cold--I don't really like either.

your tank is over 150g right? water has a moderately high specific heat. what did the temp in the tank drop to? i'd guess about 73

Wow
Hope everthing in your tank is ok!!!!
It is just as cold here in Mass I dont know what would happen to my tanks if I lost power for sooo long. As I dont have any backup power.
Good luck!!

I have multiple tanks with about a thousand gallons running. Temp was 65F.

ouch. probley to much water, but do you have a car inverter? thats my weak plan for a power outage. should run my two heaters, and i have 6 of those batterie operated airpumps and a ton of batteries.

Wow Marina, hope all your guys are going to survive this. :(

Wow, it was one degree colder down there than it was here in Connecticut.

That stinks that you lost power, but I think your inhabitants should be fine. I bet you know this already but it's better for the temp to drop rather than rise.

Thanks for good wishes, everyone.

It was "fun" moving airstones from tank to tank for 5 hours.

Hopefully, everybody lives through this ordeal, including me  :)

Sounds like it is time to upgrade to a whole house generator, one of the ones that runs off natural gas or propane.

Best of luck, hope you pull them all thru!

Best of luck.
Hope that after everything, you will be in the worst shape and most stressed out and not the fish and animals.
Short time at 65 degree should be OK especially with well oxygenated water.

Hey Marina, best wishes my friend. I've got an ear if you ever wanna vent some more!!

I hope that everything came through it all okay.

Did you give the generator a good kick, just to lift your spirits a bit? I know I would have! :D

Best wishes.

Very sorry to hear Marina, i hope everything makes it out okay. Stupid weather...
best of luck for all your broodstock.

Generator should have worked at 10F. Have a "chat" with the manufacturer or seller. Hope everything comes through ok.

Dan
