i just got a venustus angel from www.la. anyways, he came in very healthy, fat, full of color. in a word... beautiful. so i currently have him in my in tank qt. but i do know the diet and habit of this fish and am worrying that maybe i should just introduce him. or maybe put him in my fuge until he is comfortable. the problem with this is i like the other fish being able to see him.. i dont know what to do.

was wondering if i could get some input and opinions. i know some of you have had these fish so id love any advice.
 
I used to keep/sell these fish with a good sucess rate, I would keep them in a very low light tank, and feed live brine a few times a day. (the same regimin I would use for golden angels). They are very cryptic, so good luck.
 
I am considering a 'go' with multifaciatus. I will QT it in a tank with a lot of LR added, lots of hiding places, not like a normal QT setup.. I know it's not ideal for treatment of disease, but I see it as a place the fish can recover and get used to captivity for a couple of months.
 
I am having a Venustus and a Multibar right now...
My Multibar took about 3 weeks to start eating frozen mysis...
The Venustus is only 1 week old in my tank... So far pecking on LRs, did notice it took some interest while feeding time... But so far not having sunken stomach, so i guess my tank can sustain it till it starts eating...

Good luck to those trying these two picky Angels...
 
well he's in the tank. ill keep you guys posted. as of now he is picking at rocks and i see him occasionally snag some of the frozen i feed. wish me luck
 
when I had one, it was eating live brine soaked in vitachem. Within 2 weeks it started eating spectrum. The creator of spectrum had 3 in one of his tanks and they all looked amazing. Just make sure you have no fish that can pick on it...thats why I lost mine =( Good luck with it! Post some pictures!!
 
I let mine be alone in a QT tank with LR and sand for the first week or so. I also try a little bit of mysis, veggie flakes, spectrum pellets and brine. Just a little of each and see how the fish reacts and which one, if any it eats.

I just introduced these two guys and I've been fortunate that they both eat mysis, pellets and flake.

Achilles,

Be sure and provide him a large cave so he can pick at the ceiling -- If you are still having trouble getting him to feed, you might try snagging some mysis onto the cave ceiling

I've only seen one in person, this particular fish seemed to want to swim sort of upside down picking at rocks above it (just like what I've read about their natural habit) - have yours done this at all?
 
Hardly. I've read that also and I'm sure in nature they probably do, but in our artificial environment they may behave differently.

They swim with the rest of fish and no more swim upside down or hide than any of the other centropyge. They constantly look for food in the water column and rarely pick at the rocks or algae on the sides.
 
Thanks guys - they sound rather adaptable. FWIW, the one I saw was in a really dark unlit quarantine tank at the LFS -

Wish I'd bought him.
 
They are rated a 2 out of 5. 1 being most difficult. I tried one before that looked very healthy and was very active, but never ate for me.
 
mine is very active. he is in the tank with a regal angel and a pair of bellus angels. also an achilles tang and black tang. so i have very active fish and he is still out and about most of the time. ive known how difficult these guys could be to keep so i did quite a bit of studying before i got him. i purchased this guy from an online vendor that ive had some amazing success with so i know ive given myself the best shot possilbe to keep him.

Both my Venustus and Multibar does this, when they are just being introduced in the tank... After it starts eating, it stops swimming upside down...
But they sleep upside down in a cave, very unique sleeping position...

Interesting - thanks for the info - the one I saw at LFS really wanted to turn up like that - maybe it was starving for something to eat

That's why I didn't buy him - my post should have said "I guess they're more adaptable than I would have expected" - Didn't mean to make them sound like "versatile" fish :D
 
Sigh... My Venustus never make it pass his 3rd week... Maybe i should try a bigger specimen next time... He is only 2 inch big...
