Venustus Angel eating habits?

Hi, I know they eat sponges in the wild.. But I saw mine eating algae in front of my eye, it is picking on a particular part of the liverock with a bit of algae patch on it... It will also search around looking at the food when I do feeding and selective in eating, is this normal?
Anyone keeping them have experienced this before..
Maybe this might be another food that they might accept in captivity.
Btw mine is picking on mysis, just that it is very picky...

Ive tried them a few times. ive had them eating but they still slowly fadded away. I wish I knew why, they are one of my favorite fish

That happened to my first one too.. Was eating mysis.. But still died in the end... Maybe something is missing in its diet... Was considering to tried the angel formula by Ocean Nutrition

Mine eats Nori, Brown/Green/Red Algae sheets from a clip, and loves any meaty foods that I provide - Generally brine and mysis infused with Vitamin C and or Spirulina. I also feed Spirulina flakes every other day.

It seems to be working have had mine now for about a year. Here is a Pic:

Mine eats everything and fat as can be. Most of them are difficult. Best to place them in a reef/live rock tank setup with lost of algae and rocks for it to browse on. One of my ate pellets within ours, other one only ate off the rocks and glass for the first two months then meaty, flakes and pellets. Don't keep it with other larger fish until it has established and is eating well.

He is the largest angel in the tank alrdy, there are other similar sized angel with it but he is coping well with them... Just find its eating habit is still very picky, had him for 2 weeks... It ate pellet that sink to the bottom of the isolation tank but haven seen it eating pellet while in the tank.. Are they slow eater?

Many angels are slow to start eating. That is why I think many more difficult ones are doomed when they have been at the wholesaler and LFS too long. A healthy venustus will eat really well.

I have a 7-8" blueline that I had close to 6 weeks before it started eating. Now it eats mysis like crazy, but nothing else. One of my potters only browsed on rocks and the glass for the first 6 months. Now it eats anything.

I guess it will take sometime for him to start eating well but i guess it is a good start that it is eating slowly... Cos it really take its time to scan through the food while the other fishes are zooming around eating...
