Venustus Angel with Potters

Hi guys,

I found a Venustus Angel at my lfs. It is about 4" and looks healthy but currently not eating. They've had it for a week now. I watched them feed it live brine but it just looked at the food and that was that. Several people have inquired about it but no one brought it cause he isnt eating.

I'm tempted to jump the gun.. however, I have a Potters angel. He's 2.5". A few weeks ago I tried to put in a smaller 2" Pygmy Cherub Angel and that guy got nipped on instantly. I had to give him to a friend.

I assume since the Venustus is much larger, he should be okay against the Potters? It's a 120G tank 4 foot long.

Of course the other issue is he isnt eating but I think I can get him to eat after he''s acclimated.

Any thoughts?

resist the urge, dont do it man. I'm sure the LFS is doing all they can to feed the fish also. Between the LFS and the wholesaler, that fish could easily not be eating for 10+ days.

Bluezoo has them in stock at the moment. I rather get it online and get a 14 day guarantee than get a fish that havent ate in a week.

I agree--kind of going against one of the sacred rules "Though shalt not by a fish that does not eat". No matter how good the deal is or how awesome the fish.

My LFS sells big, colorful Moorish Idols to any sucker willing to pay $39.

+3. Don't do it man!! You would be buying a heartache..
Plus, your Potter's would probably intimidate the new angel. They are generally much more aggressive, especially compared to any of the (Para)Centropyge angels.
Curious George, that is a freaking crime. Something needs to be done about that. Like a boycott..

My potters went crazy when I added my multicolored angel to the point I had to remove the potters for a week before I put it back in the main tank. I tried Venustus a few times and they can not take any stress. I personally wouldnt even consider it though if it wasnt eating....

I introduced a Venustus with my Potters both about 2.5 to 3 inches about 2 years ago and they lived together for a year and a half until I moved my Potters to a different tank. The Potters had been in the tank for about 6 months previous. Acclimated new angel thru see through cage to get them use to each other. The Potters showed aggression for the first couple of days and after that would just occaisonally show it's dominance in the pecking order. Had them in a 75gallon at first, and then moved them both to a 150 gallon, before moving the Potters back to the 75gallon.

I know have the Venustus in my 150 with a Golden angel and a Multi-bar. My experience is that the Venutus is pretty timid in comparison with other Dwarf Angels, (I know it's a Pom not a Centro).

All this being said I would not buy the Venustus unless it looks healthy and is eating. Mine was eating at the LFS, and ate the first day in my tank, nearly impossible to rescue something, especially if it is going to go into a tank where it will be initially stressed, and probably bullied.

Thanks guys! I decided not to pull the trigger on that one.. he also had a white spot on his fine which didn't look good LOL..

Anyway, I ended up checking out a purple tang at another LFS and they also have a 4" Venustus.. This one appears to be eating but it was trying to scratch its sides against the rock.. hmm that didn't look good either..
