Vermetid Snail issue

I've got a mini infestation of vermetid snails. I can see around 10 to 15 of them spread around the tank and a TON of these little while dots that I'm thinking might be baby ones looking for a rock to make their home. And I do mean there are a lot of those white dots not only on the glass and rocks, but even on my clean up crew snail shells.

Here's a picture of what those white dots look like on a snail's shell. It's not my picture but they look exactly the same in my tank. Are these vermetid spawn waiting to grow or are they something else? I have dozens(maybe even a few hundred) of these white spots around the tank and I'm really hoping they are something else.

I also have a question about removing the snails that have already established a tube. If I reach into the tank with a pair of rock cutters and snip them off at the base, will that kill them? I've read that a yellow coris wrasse will eat them as well. Has anyone had experience with a wrasse eating them? I had a yellow coris wrasse in my tank for a short time but he didn't make it and so I'm trying to decide if I should get another.(he was only the second fish death in the first 10+ months of running my tank)

I had vermited snails at the beginning of my tank - hundreds of them. I read that their population explodes and then - poof - they are gone. That's exactly what happened to me. I still have a few that I'll catch growing in a drag and I'll just snip the tube off as you said.

I didn't read about any way to get rid of them other than just let them die out. And they did.

I had an explosion of them as well, I think I even had a topic on here about it. My mel wrasse has taken take of the problem mostly. That and strave them out. aka, less feeding tank

Thanks! It's good to know that they should go away on their own in time and with reduced nutrients in the water. I have been feeding more lately to fatten up a very skinny tang that I bought at the swap. I should be back to my normal feeding soon.

That is good to know. Thanks.

None of my white dots have developed into the full spiral shell yet. I have dozens of regular feather dusters with the straight white tube. It looks like I have another type of filter feeder/feather duster to look forward to!

those little small white things are Spirorbid Worm, they are harmless
