Vermetid snails

I have a 5" crocea that has never really had good mantle extension. It has vermetid snails on the shell but it also has some on the rim by the mantle. Can these cause the clam to not extend the mantle or cause any other issues? I hate having these things on the clam. Is there a good reason to remove them otherwise? If so, can I just cut the off with a razor blade or something?

Yes it will cause your clam to look bad. Remove them. I have to do this also.

I took the clam out tonight and busted off the vermetid and their shells with some wire cuttere. The clam is already extending the mantle better than what it was.
