Vertex Alpha cone 200 Size

Hi All

I want to buy the Vertex Alpha cone 200 skimmer

however my sump protein skimmer section is only 17.5 inch wide and 12 inch long.

The Vertex website says the skimmer's foot print is 18 x 10 inch, but other websites says its little less. Can someone please let me know the actual foot print of the 200 version, and if it can fit in a 17.5 by 12 inch sump?

thanks alot

Pran

If it didn't, I'm sure you could shorten the clear hose that connects the pump to the body by a 1/2". The one that was on my buddies 250 was at least 4" where it could have been 2". Assuming they are shipped with the same connecting hose.

My alpha 200 is in a area thats 12x15.5 and it fits. I had to shorted the tube that attaches the pump to the skimmer and its still a really tight fit. 17inches+ should be plenty or room.

oh really....thats great

I talked with to Proline aquatics and they said even after cutting the silicon pipe its 18 inch for sure and it wont fit

thats strange, b/c to me it seemed small too

I put it in the standard way but at 15 inches its a tight fit. I cracked my baffle the other day leaning the skimmer against it so when I redo it I will be making it 17 inches.

Here are some pics.

oh nice...thanks alot for those pix

so since I have 17.5 inch...mine should be big enough for it I guess

I believe you had to cut ur silicon pipe more to fit it

is there any performance loss in putting it very tight?

my tank is 150 gallon, sps with high bio load, would I be fine with alpha 170, or should I get 200?

thanks everyone

Im using it with my 155 heavy load 15 frag and 20fug and not super happy with the performance so far. I think its just to big for my system.

oh ic

dude...I am in ur situation too

I have a 150 gallon tank with a heavy bio load and sps

I order alpha 170 last thursday, its coming to my house this wed

after talking to you I called up the store and asked them if I can swap it, they said I can but they said that its not a good idea to put the skimmer tight, b/c it will restrict water flow and also having 170 and 200 in a 150 gallon its not a huge difference in performance

so since u r saying its too big for ur fish tank, I think I should go with the 170

what do you think dude?

thanks
Pran

Im having the same situation but i have enough space under the sump im going with around 30 fish i know to much but just a rough estimate, Sps Dominate and a large anemone, and heavy bio load with probably over feeding. should i get the 170 or the 200?
