Vertex Illumina Club

Gentlemen,
What levels are you guys running your illumina 260s at?
Right now the peak levels I'm running now during acclimation is
Blue 48, royal blue 40, and white 38
How about you guys. My tank is 90 percent sps.
In the next weeks, ill probably start adjusting them further tweaking lights and color.
I do own a apogie par meter that I haven't opened yet. I can measure it however I strongly agree with the comments regarding measurement that were on either this thread or the other vertex thread.

I've got a friend who has access to a spectrometer and PAR meter as he is working on his PhD in marine science at the local State University. When I get back from my vacation I will ask him to check them out for me and we'll do some testing on my 36" 260 over my 48x18x18 tank. I tried to see if I could borrow the same jim did from PA but no response. :o

jimrawr, see posts 214 and 231 for par stuff. Those posts don't seem to go with your measurements. and the 214 post is a 200 fixture turned down. maybe there's something wrong with your unit.
just trying to help. those 2 posts stood out to me.
regards

Gentlemen,
Have any of you had the oppertunity to upgrade your vertex lights with expansion modules? I am going to pick up 2 of the 660 nanometer (red) led modules. Are these dimmable through the use of the V-stick? Using vertex desktop, I have never seen the Red channel, will it pop up with the new modules installed or is there a new firmware that is needed to do this?
Cheers
Rob

Rob,

they are automatically intergrated into the Desk Top and the Illumina. When mounting them, be as precise as possible, as I mounted one a tiny bit off-plumb and only two of the LEDs lit. I remounted and all was perfect. Also, resist running them over 50% for a while, until your corals get used to it. Red wavelengths do cause slight bleaching to corals, as they restrict the zooxanthellae population. The plus side is that this allows the aquarist to model the colours of his corals by influencing the zooxanthellae population. It is the same effect we see in the KZ Fiji Purple, that, also, spikes in the red.

So I have been following the Vertex Illumina fixtures for awhile now. I'm just about ready to pull the trigger but as one last sanity check I want to make sure I have the sizing etc correct.

My tank is 90g 36"x24"x24"
Want to keep LPS, SPS and some softies.

Will a 24" 200 do the trick? Do I need the 260? Can a 12" 260 do the job?

Thanks!

A 24" would work as it would allow for low light areas on both sides of the fixture. A 200 will be fine, If It was me, id go for the 36 personally especially if you will want to have SPS dominated later on, It just adds more flexibility later on. Hope that Helps

SIK! thanks I will try and them installed one day this week. I hope they release a violet LED pack in the near Future

Well after giving this thing a shot, I think I am going to put my 24" 260 for sale. My par readings were fine for this fixture after using the second par meter and sending over 20 emails back and forth with vertex, everything seems on spec. My LPS are doing great with this light but I am not having success with my SPS like I was with my 14k 400w Ushio bulb. Time to cut my losses and sell this thing I think.

I will be going back to a 400w bulb with my 4x24" t5s to supplement to the color I want

disappointing,
good luck Jim, thanks

I cant say 100% that the light is the problem here and I definitely dont want to bash this unit as I do think its the best LED on the market. For me I am just going to go back to what I know will work for sure.

Its not that, when I kept the lights on full blast for a few weeks everything got bleached so there is definitely enough light. I just cant get anything to color up/grow

Only the SPS at the top 1/3 tank have good growth and good colour. Others not good and that's why I want to add the red/violet modules to see if that helps.

I am using almost 90-100% blues and have dialed down to 35% whites due to algae issue.

LPS - very good growth and colour!

Hey guys,
I picked up two of the RED LED modules for my 4 ft. I installed them tonight, updated the V-link firmware and I was able to control them through the computer.

However, I need help, One of the two modules is not working, I installed both of them using the same method as per the installation videos by pro-line aquatics. I really think i have a defective module, that or maybe the cable is no good. I took it off to make sure the pins made contact, Everything looks good. Still does not work. Anyone have this issue or has any further tips? board is flat and level with other modules installed and the pins made contact into the buss.

Cheers
Rob

Tonight has kind of been a PITA. Hoping this would have been more positive
