I've been running a Vertex In-250 in my 120 gallon tank for over a month and cannot get it dialed in. The tank is new and has a very light bio-load (a few softies and 2 clown fish).
The skimmer is sitting in 7" of water (it was in 8.5", but I've since put it on a stand), and the water level in that section of the sump does not change.
In the span of a day, without touching the wedge pipe at all, the skimmer goes from producing nice foam (with the water level in the main body just below where it begins to taper up to the neck), to flooding my floor with a jet of water.
Even with the wedge pipe at the lowest setting (fully open) the water level in the skimmer is often just below the collection cup overflow.
For the last week the skimmer has been at the lowest setting and it's all over the map. One hour I get nice foam, the next a shower.
I've pulled the skimmer out and run it with a light vinegar water solution twice, and regularly clean the collection cup and neck.
I'm at the point where I can't trust the skimmer at all, and am inclined to turn it off to prevent disaster if I can't babysit it.
Does anyone have any idea what the issue might be?
Thanks,
