Vertex IN-80

Do you have a picture of your unit?

The IN80 did not receive the same Gen 2 reiteration as the larger sizes.

I'll take one tonight, but it looks exactly like the one pictured, except that mine doesn't have the cap on top of the wedge pipe and the air line does not go into the pipe either. The one I posted was also an IN-80 so I would think they'd look exactly the same?

Is the bubble plate the same? The other Gen 2's have the bubble plate lowered for longer dwell time.

There is no difference in the bubble plate or pump mounting configuration. The pipe has a cap, with a hole drilled in it, as well as the fitting for the silencer. If you'd like, I can try and get a cap and fitting to you if you want to retrofit it? Let me know and I'll check with Vertex on it.

Thanks,
Jeremy

What about the pinwheel? Someone else mentioned that there is a newer pinwheel that is black instead of white, and is more efficient. Thanks Jeremy!!

There has only been one style of impeller for the Vertex IN series skimmers. The ceramic shaft changed sizes, but the impeller has stayed the same.

That's an ASM Sedra impeller, not a Vertex impeller. Vertex impellers have always been white, they've never been molded in black.

The only difference between the Gen 1 impeller and the Gen 2 impeller is the diameter of the ceramic shaft.

Pull your impeller assembly out of your pump and hold each end of the shaft between your fingers and spin the impeller. Does it spin freely, or is it tight?

It's no problem at all. Let me know if you need a new shaft and I'll get one out to you. Also, you can go to a local hobby store and purchase a piece of carbon fiber rod that is the same size diameter, or maybe a .001 smaller or so, and cut it to length the same as the shaft. This will never break like the ceramic has the potential to over time.

Thanks,
Jeremy

I took a picture last night as requested, and pulled the pump out to have a look at the impeller. If I hold it by both end caps, it will move, but it is kind of stiff.

It sounds like you might need a new shaft. The impeller should sprint pretty freely. If you want, I can have a shaft sent out to you, or you can try the carbon fiber mod, it's up to you.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Sorry to hijack your thread but its on topic.

I think i can get my own cap and drill a hole myself, but where can i get that other fitting and hole is it installed.

My vertex is suppose to be a gen 2 as well, i guess im lost on why some come with this mod and some do not. Should i call someone from vertex and ask them ?

I replaced the shaft with a piece of carbon fiber rod, and the pump is much quieter now! Great tip! Now, I can't seem to get a stable bubble column, and mixed in with the tiny bubbles are huge ones? I pulled it all apart tonight and made sure everything was seated well and nothing was being blocked. I also shot a quick video to show. I also posted this in the Vertex thread.

Give it a few days, it should come back around. The rod could have caused it with some type of process oils on it or something.

Thanks for responding to my post.

I guess ill start my own thread and see what happens.

thanks

Sorry, I completely forgot to reply to you, my apologies.

We have 1/4" fittings here that would work for you just fine. Let me know if you need help finding one.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Well, the huge bubbles still persist. I took the cup off and cleaned it (just water) and the top of the neck where the huge bubbles are last night. As of now, they are still huge and showing no signs of going away. Two weeks now and I still haven't gotten any skimmate at all out of it. Is there anything else I can do? I'm starting to think I should exchange it for a different skimmer.
