Very bad news

I couldn't even handle nursing school. I was ready for the gross stuff and had A's in the coursework, but the emotional toll was just too much. From the pharmacy I can still contribute, but I usually don't witness what the patients are actually dealing with.

I thought so too, until I became a hospice nurse. It's true, there is an emotional toll, but what you get back, the gratification that you helped make someone's passing comforatble, and in their own home, the way they wanted it, is priceless. There are nights I cry myself to sleep, because I fell in love with patients and families and share their grief, but for the most part, I thank God I have been able to help. The travel part sometimes sucks, and the hours most definately suck, but it's all relative. People aren't born on schedule, or 9-5 M-F, and they don't die on schedule either. So it kinda evens out.
