Very happy with my 6105's

Just thought I'd share my thoughts as a proud owner of x2 6105's.

The overall build of these pumps is in a completely different category than than the nano streams. I'm not knocking the nano streams as I own several and am pleased with them, but the 6105's will eat them for breakfast. They have way more flow than I could ever use in my 5' long 110g tank. I tried the 6055's and they fell short for my application. The 6105's have almost too much flow even running throttled down on 15v.

The C clips are very heavy duty and the front cage snaps VERY firmly into place (there is no question whether or not you have it seated properly) and does not come loose. They just feel solid when you hold them in your hand which is something I felt the Vortechs were lacking after trying them out.

At first they were loud - loud enough that I could hear them resonating throughout the house. Now that they've been running for a couple weeks they're silent.

Being able to position them in any direction is nice, only drawback is that it's tough to get them back into the same position if you move/bump them for any reason.

Overall I'm very happy. Kudos to Tunze for their excellent engineering! And as always, Roger is a straight shooter who offers stellar service/support!

so your 6105 is loud for couple weeks???

i just got my 4day and it loud like vortech,, humming sound, kinna ,,but hopefully it will silent like the old tunze model.....,,,
any body here own 6105 ?? does it sound humming noise at first??/

Yes, they both had excessive noise and vibration at first. I was skeptical even after reading the threads in this forum about them quieting down after they break in.

I'm a believer now though :)

We do have a long term solution for the 6105 noise and new pumps will not be loud and anyone whose pump has not quieted down we can send the fix to when it is ready. The noise comes from a reverberation created by the high rotational frequency. The parts have enough give that over a couple weeks they settle to where the noise is worked out but for the future we will upgrade the propeller to 45mm from 42mm and reduce the voltage from 24V to 18V to slow the pump down. This almost eliminates the noise and the only effect on the flow is the pressure is a little higher for the first 2ft, otherwise it is identical in gph and reach. If the noise really bothers you and you can get by with less flow, simply changing to the 15V jumper that came with the pump will solve the problem immediately.

I too have 2x 6105 streams on a 5' tank and could not be happier with them. I agree with the OP in that they are very well built and perform as advertised.

Ive never actually played with a Vortech so I cant honestly compare them, but Im cool with that :D

Kudos to Roger + Team.

simply changing to the 15V jumper that came with the pump will solve the problem immediately.

What is this jumper ? Do you need to have it in ?

Yes, it came with your pump, it was in a small baggie inside the white box that the power supply was in. The power supply has a 24V jumper installed it is over the red LED, you just swap them out. Your manual covers changing it and its purpose.

I got my new 7095 running today and WOW, what a difference over the 7094 I was running. I'm like a kid at Christmas watching these run in interval mode :).

"If the noise really bothers you and you can get by with less flow, simply changing to the 15V jumper that came with the pump will solve the problem immediately"

No!! not mine?? just got it back from Tunze (new motorblock)has only run for 2 weeks, so i hope more time will do the trick. But my believe to Tunze it's not what it just to be!!

peder, please read the entire post, it is a temporary fix. We are changing to a bigger propeller and 18V jumper, with this solution the flow is the same and the pump is quiet. Right now you have a 42mm prop spinning at about 3900rpm, we are changing to a 45mm prop spinning at 3100rpm, flow is the same. It will take a couple weeks to get the parts to do this so for now if you cannot wait, use the 15V jumper. All you will have to do is send an email to the factory and when the parts arrive they will send them.

So... not being one to shy away from asking questions... what would be the effect of adding the new 45mm prop AND KEEPING THE 24V JUMPER IN? :D :D :D :D :D

The pump would draw more power and this could harm the pump. The manual will say that if you choose to use the 24V jumper you must use the 42mm prop and both will be offered.

How much less power will the 6105 draw with the 18v jumper and the larger prop? Do you know what the flow and power draw is with the 15v jumper and existing prop?

Thanks

The power draw is the same with the 18V jumper and 45mm prop. With a 15V jumper and the current 42mm prop it is about 16W.

Hey Roger, Can I use the new 45mm prop on my 6101 pump or is this only for the 6105 ? Just wondering, Also any news on the 7096 release date?
