Very OT: I need help from computer (XBox Live) people......

Yea that's exactly what I did.. I first got another router and when that didn't work, I did the gamer tag thingy and that fixed the issue I was having with Live. By the way you have a 360 right?? I don't think this gamer tag thingy is available on an old Xbox.

Ya, it's a 360.

I edited my last post. I am pretty certain I have tried your test....to no avail. I tried about 20 tests with the 360 Sunday night when it wouldn't connect at all to the internet.

Could also look and see if there is a firm ware update for your router. My linksys started acting up, and i download the latest firmware update from there site . Fixed the problem right away. Quick and easy fix to try

Too bad you can't put tomato on a NetGear :) If you don't know what I'm talking about, google linksys + tomato

Steri - I would say it would be your router too. Also it could be your live account. I know it sounds weird but all of a sudden one day, my xbox live account wouldn't log in automatically but I could log in fine if I first did a network test and then logged in. What you can do is delete your gamer tag from your hard drive and then run the built in "Xbox Live Gamer Tag Recovery" from your xbox.

I don't believe this so called hacker could have done anything. He would have to have an inside connection at AT&T to figure out what IP address was assigned to you.

I would seriously consider another router or doing that gamer tag recovery thing before you worry anymore about someone, somewhere hacking your network.

Thanks sh0tyme83, I had this same problem and never knew how to fix it!

Just to double check....do you mean "delete" completely from your hard drive and then search for the gamer tag again, or do you mean to sign out, run the connection test, and then sign abck in? I have not done the former. I have done the latter.

yea the first one. You have to delete your tag from your hard drive. Then you can recover it .... IF YOU CAN CONNECT TO THE INTERNET. Don't delete it if you can not connect.

Hmmm. I will try the router first then.....because connecting to the internet is 50/50 at best right now for me.

Steri anytime you want a run for your money on cod let me know.....My net gear router is giving me a bunch of trouble right now too. I am buying a lynksis soon. It only messes with my xbox360, noy my wireless internet

try changing the channel that your router operates on. I have a net gear that was doing the same thing. My internet would run on my computer and then shut off and was terrible. I changed to a different channel and it worked. Most routers start off on the same channel from teh factory so maybe a neighbor got a router that didnt have one before that is screwing things up. When i changed my channel internet has been perfect. Hope this helps.

Ya the real question here should be if you are any good at COD.

I think I can hold my own ;)

I already have Modern Warfare 2 bought. I'll be attending the midnight release to pick it up and have taken two days off of work (11/10/09 and 11/11/09).

Ya, I am a rediculous sized nerd about this game.

On Xbox Live, my name is Stevizzle. Friend me up, I'll be glad to play!

FYI, (update)

Went looking for routers yesterday. For anyone that cares or could be interested, when looking for a router, do not look for a Wireless N router (if you have xbox live).

I was told that those are evidently not compatible with the xbox Live Wireless internet adapter. The xbox adapter is only works with 802.11a, b, g routers......meaning that you should be looking for a G or Rangemax G router. I was told if I buy an N I would not be able to connect it to the xbox right now. Evidently, xbox is working on a patch for this, but it has not come out yet.

Huge load of BS. I have a D-Link wireless N router. Wireless N is backwards compatible with a, b, and g. In fact, I would recommend that you get an N router. The router will give you the longest range possible. I have the DIR-628 and it is a highly recommended router. You won't be able to use the 5GHz channel though.
