vho clam

For sure a squamosa or derasa. Do to your short tank, you *might* be able to get away with a maxima too.

Check out a gold maxima, too- They require a bit less light. They don't like to be moved all that much, particularly when they get a bit larger. Derasas are the hardiest, and more colorful usually than squamosas. Check out my gallery for pics of mine! (I'm not so great at the linking thing) I use 220w of VHO (110w of 10k and 110w of 50/50) + 40w NO. (actinic) on a 55g and they've bee doing great.

I've had a blue crocea under 110 vhos and it is a happy clam. The lights are ~ 3" off the water and the clam is about 8" deep on the rocks. Had him for 7 months.

I think its do-able. I think that vho's are (IMO) much better option than PC. Especially in that tank. I give it a thumbs up.

It definitely helps with the temperature management. I can't afford a chiller. The only submersed motor I have in the tank runs the skimmer.

I have a halide pendant over a 20L and It doesn't seem to have much problem. I do supplement with a ceiling fan, but I don't know that its necessary.

Ive got 3 4" fans in a 2' tall canopy and 1 in the lower cabinet that contains my main pump, fuge w/ 2 15 watt NO fluorescents. The house is kept at 68 F and the tank is steady at 78-80 degrees. (Was that a contradicting statement? steady at....) I keep the lights on the fuge on 24/7.

I have a crocea in a 75 gal with 440 vho and 260 pc and the thing is growing like a weed. I think that in the right conditions they do fine even with out mh. I say you would be just fine.

:D That is a good one Snprhed got a chuckle out of it. Yeah you would be surprised what you can get under those hoods if you try. I was actually thinking of adding 2 more VHOs there is just enough room. But it is working just fine the way it is so why fix something that aint broke.
