VHO upgrade

So,

I got this ballast and 2 bulbs from the purchase of my used 90 DAS Hex.


The ballast is a standard Fluorescent ballast inside a black plastic housing.

I'd like to rip it out and replace it with an Ice-Cap so I can run VHOs to supplement my PC lighting.

Anyone know if the wiring and endcaps etc will support the swap from NO Fluorescent to VHO ? The shrouds and endcaps look just like the one's everyone uses for VHO's, so I have to assume the lamps and ballasts are the only difference.

Also, can a single IceCap ballast run 3 VHO lamps ?

NO and VHO endcaps are very different. I would not run VHO bulbs in NO sockets, buy waterproof VHO endcaps.

These are waterproof endcaps, and the whole nine. I just figured a ballast and bulb swap would git-r-dun.

I will keep digging as I am not even sure I am going to end up doing VHO.

I may end up using MH's and supplementing with my existing 2 x 65 PCs

Would you not be better off with T5-VHO lamps?

I believe that they use the same endcaps as regular T5 and T5-HO lamps.

Don't try to use NO endcaps on VHO bulbs or you will likely blow the ballast when moisture or salt creep gets in the caps.

PFO offered a great retrofit kit for VHO. I just got the 4 bulbs kit. I like the way it prewired the end cap. I know Custom Aquatic has it for very good price.
