VHO vs T5

I currently run 2 48 inch VHO actinic bulbs and I am thinking about switching to T5's because of the smaller foot print. However, I heard about T5 actinic's not being as good as VHOs. I also run 2x250 Radium 20ks.

Opinions?

The VHO super actinic bulbs are still the best for colour IMO

I got rid of my 2x160 watt VHO, and replaced them with 4x80 T5. I love it. Same power consumption, way more light. I keep softies and easy SPS. The SPS are happy and growing, even more than halfway down in the tank. Lots of my mushrooms, even on the bottom of the tank, lost color with the brighter light.

Sorry I just read that also have MH. If you want to find a good T5 bulb, look at URI. I think they have a new one coming soon.

vho actinics are the best, but that's no reason to stick with vho. you only use half the amount of power, better par, and i'm told with geissemann and aquascience actinics you can get great color. no reason to stay with vho's anymore, imo

I switched from VHO's to T-5 setup there pretty nice IMO more light but maybe thats because of the reflectors that are offered for T-5 setups.

If you are using MH bulbs now.....no question about it - suppliment with VHO instead of T5

MUCH better color.

VHO actinics have a nicer color versus both T5 actinics and PC actinics and yes I have used all 3.

Look for UV 454 IN VHO fashion . Nice deep color .

I currently run VHO in my 150. They are 72" long so I'm trying to find out what I can keep with them, or do I need to switch lighting, probally T-5"s. Here's my thread
