VHOs w/Metal Halide

Ok, so I have a 3 foot reef (see pic below) and I still use VHOs. I've been given the green light by the wife to upgrade to a 6 foot tank. Only problem is I have a surplus of 36" VHO bulbs and would really like to use them up in the new tank. So I was thinking about mounting my 36" VHOs on one side and putting a single Metal Halide on the other. 1/2 the reef would remain unchanged with softies/LPS, but I could build a separate reef on the Metal Halide side to grow SPS. Thoughts? Suggestions? Will this just look stupid or something?

Lighting is always personal preference... However, for a more natural look, I would suggest mounting a MH on each end and two VHO's side by side, in front of and behind the MH's (for a total of four 36" VHO's).
When we upgraded to our 265G we tried utilizing our two existing 175W MH's on each end and adding a new 400W MH in the middle. The non uniformed look drove us crazy until we upgraded to all 400 MH's.

IMHO I have to agree with BlueDartReefer a tank that looks un-uniform would drive me crazy as well, beside that one side SPS and the other LPS may look a bit funny as well. A well lit uniform tank with different corals across would look more natural.

By the way thats a nice looking tank, and the Tang is very cool.

Thanks for the comments/suggestions. I think I'm going to look into what BlueDartReefer suggested. Seems like a pretty good idea.

Mark, thanks for the comment about "Mary Kay" Tang. She's the whole reason I'm upgrading to a 6 footer.
