I bought your 72" retrofit kit VHO's and I can't seem to get them to turn on. I've completed the assembly with a lot of help, only one bulb seems to flicker then go out when I plug it in. Everything seems to be hooked up correctly. Could you guys give me some insight?

Hello Fishfirst,

Thank you for your order with us. I apologize that the lights are not working properly for you. It can be hard to trouble shoot via posting, so if possible, please give us a call at 1-714-385-0080 so we can try to help go over different possibilities. But a couple of different things you can check is: 1) Make sure the wires are pushed fully into the endcaps; 2) Make sure the bulbs are sitting properly in the endcaps; and 3) Try switching the bulbs to see if that make a difference (as far as the flickering bulb, see if the same bulb always flickers).

Also if you wish you can contact IceCap directly for tech support at 1 (800) 7-ICECAP or via there forum here on RC.

If there is anything else we can do for you do not hesitate to ask.

well... I had an electritian take a look at it and he said its the ballast. The wireing is correct, end caps are on right, bulbs are fine etc. Would I be able to get a new one under the warrenty?

From IceCap:
Did you try the continuity test we suggest to verify if it's the bulb, wiring or ballast?
http://www.icecapinc.com/pdf/contest.pdf

Most electricians have a problem understanding our ballast. A conventional ballast know on and off. Our ballasts checks for continuity on the entire lamp load and if it finds a problem it turn off. You must cycle the power off and back on to try it again. (we suggest waiting 15 seconds between tries to allow an internal component to cool down)

Also, are your endcaps mounted, using waterproof endcaps and properly spaced so there's no wiggle room when the lamp is slid in place? If all the above is true, then turn it for two clicks and secure the outer seal but not too tightly. Also, check the lamp's pins to see that they are secure. If they are not, the bulb is no good.

Try calling Dave in service at 800-742-3227 ext. 25 if the above doesn't make sense, or just to discuss the problem.
If it's the ballast, we can authorize MD to replace it while your's is on its way back to IceCap or we can ship a new one ourselves.

Andy

Okay I'm trying it out one last time today. I'll do the things suggested... but I don't have the ability to do a continuity test.

k I found an electrician, will tell you guys the results... thank you for your concern in your product, makes me want to buy some metal halides.

Well we found the problem... one of the copper connections wasn't touching the lamp and making the ballast shut off we pulled it out more so it touched and sure enough it went on. things are all set. Thank you for all the help. Next item to get... RO/DI!
